Famous Personalities of Ahmednagar

Sai Baba of Shirdi came to Shirdi village of Ahmednagar district. Shirdi is today a well-known pilgrimage centre for people of all religions.

Anna Hazare – Anna was born in Bhingar in Ahmednagar. He is a well-known social activist famous for spearheading movements for rural development and wiping out corruption.

Sri Anand Rishi Ji – Ahmednagar is made famous by many saints from this place. One of them is Jai saint, Sri Anand Rishi ji Maharaj. The postal department has issued a postal stamp in his honor.

Meher Baba – Another well-known saint, Meher Baba established “Meherabad” in Ahmednagar. This ashram was centre of his work. He opened a hospital, school and dispensary in Meherabad which served for free.

Pramod Kamble – PramodKamble is a famous artist from Ahmednagar. His notable contributor as a painter, sculptor and creative painter to the Indian art. He has been promotion eco-friendly Ganesh idols during Ganesh festival for better natural environment for the coming generation. He made a huge pencil drawing “saarejahan se achcha” as part of 50 years celebration of Indian independence as a tribute to the country. He has many awards, prominent among them being “Shilpgauravpuruskar” in 2013 by B.R. KhedkarPratishtan, Pune;Bombay Art Society, Art Society of India awards; and Kala Gaurav Puraskar in 2011.

Chand Bibi – Chand Bibi was Muslim woman warrior who served as a regent to Ahmednagar. She fought and defended Ahmednagar from the Mughal armies.

Sadashiv Amrapurkar–Sadashiv is a well-known Indian actor who had acted in Hindi as well as Marathi cinema. He was born in Ahmednagar in the year 1950. His recognizable movies are Ardh Satya, Kaal Chakra, Ishq, and Sadak.

Ajinkya Rahane – Ajinkya Rahane is a famous Indian cricketer who represents India at the international level. He was born in Ahmednagar district in 1988.

Shahu Modak – ShahuModak, born in Ahmednagar, was an Indian actor who played in many Hindi as well as Marathi movies.
